The College Board announced two major changes today. Firstly, the testing firm will no longer offer the SAT Subject Tests (or SAT IIs) in the US. However, because these tests are used for a variety of purposes, international students can continue to take them through June 2021. Secondly, the optional SAT Essay will be discontinued after the June 2021 administration. This news will no doubt eliminate lots of confusion surrounding these optional tests and will make the college application process somewhat easier. However, greater emphasis may be placed on AP exams and other aspects of student profiles. The College Board also plans to revise the main SAT to make it “more flexible” and transition to a digital test-taking format. More information will be released in April.
